Progress Reports

Progress reports go home Wednesday for first and second grade students.   There are two key areas you need to look at on the progress report—ELA and Math. ELA stands for English Language Arts which encompasses Reading, Spelling, Grammar, and Writing. In both ELA and Math, first and second grade students need to have a “C” average or higher to be considered passing.

If your child has a “D or F” in one of these two subject areas, please touch base with your child’s teacher. You may want to set up a parent conference and/or ask about how you can specifically help your child. If your child has a low “C”, you might want to do the same as a low “C” is right on the borderline of passing/failing.

Attendance Reminders

· Students are counted tardy if they arrive at 8:05 or later. Late buses are not considered tardy.

· If students check out early, it has to be before 2:30 p.m. Also, if they are checking out for a doctor’s appointment, please send in the excuse note the next day, and the check out will be excused.

· On the 8th unexcused tardy/check out per 9 weeks, a student is considered truant.

· Students should bring in notes when they are absent. If they do not have an official note from a doctor, dentist, hospital, etc., parents can write their own “parent notes” which can cover up to 4 days of absences per 9 weeks. All notes need to be turned in within 5 days of the absence. On the 5th unexcused absence, a student is considered truant.

Increased Security

You may notice that we have increased security this week at school. Please help and support us with these changes.

· Staff parking in back is only for staff; therefore the back parking lot will be locked during school hours. If you have a child in the clinic or need to drop off/pick up a child, please come to the front.

· All gates in the front of the school that lead to classrooms will be locked after the tardy bell. Therefore, all parents and students must come through the main building and check in at our window. Parents, please come through the front office. To check out your child

· If you need to park and enter the school, please park in a parking spot. Do not park in the lane that is designated for the car line.

· We encourage parents to let their children walk to class on their own.  This will help us cut down on the amount of adult visitors and supervision in the mornings.
